Presidents Report
Hello members and Friends, just between you and I we are already into May, halfway through the year already! What a busy 5 months we have had, with our trip to Perth, the ASA Convention all done and dusted and our bird expo only 1 week away they do say time flies when you are having fun. I am sure for those that attended the convention you would have been impressed with the quality of the venue and the guest speakers. Thankfully everything went as planned which was just fantastic. I really want to personally thank everyone that opened up their aviaries and allowed close to 100 people through on the Friday and 50 on the Monday, huge numbers to have meander through your private collections. I am certain everyone that visited thoroughly enjoyed the aviaries and how neat and tidy they all were, well done. I mentioned at our April meeting the passing of Phillip Hicks from Warrnambool. Phil was a financial member of our club, as well as many others, and we could always rely of Phil to lend a hand at our Expo. Our thoughts and prayers to Shirley and the Hicks family. RIP Phil. I look forward to catching up with you all at the May meeting.

SHEPPARTON BIRD EXPO THIS SUNDAY FROM 11 AM UNTIL SOLD OUT.
March Meeting Report
Just over 30 at our March meeting and Steven Marven put together a small presentation on his recent trip to the Orange Bird Sale including some aviary visit footage. Looked like a large sale which is probably now the biggest in the country. New badges are now available and Warren is taking orders if you need one. Copies of the revised VAC Code of Practice were handed out to members and our Expo stewards to review prior to our Expo in May. A number of people were very excited as it was only 1 week prior to our Perth Aviary Visit.
April Meeting Report
April commenced with 35 people including our Guest Speaker Vern Muir and his daughter Julia. It was the early 1990’s since we had Vern come and give us a talk so well overdue. Sounds like DNA solutions has grown dramatically since then and receive samples from all over the world. It was very surprising to see some of the samples in Vern’s presentation that have very little information or wrong information and even one that had enough blood on it I was surprised the bird was still alive. The funniest example was one card that has 4 separate blood samples on the one card, as Vern said a contaminated bowl of soup, another was the description of just rose crown? Rose crown conure or rose crown fruit dove. I found the talk very informative yet surprised at the lack of thought some birdos put into sending of their samples. We then used a Lutino Indian Ringneck to show how to correctly take both blood and Feather samples and fill in the card. A great night that ended late after a cuppa and cake and the normal discussions on everything bird related.

Aviary Trip to Perth
This year a small handful of GV Bird Club members headed over to Western Australia in March to look at the sites and see some incredible collections.
A great collection of photos and videos was presented to the club last meeting. A great article is currently available in our newsletter.
